Floral studies of mine, such as this painting, have been consistently popular throughout the years I have been an artist. Rather than botanical studies, these paintings are more an exercise in balance of colour, light, composition, etc., with a desire to create a floral ” dreamscape “. A number of resources are used for each painting like this, resulting in the pleasing, ( to myself at least! ), idea that many of the component flowers and grasses do not grow / flower at the same time and are not necessarily correctly sized. However, the finished painting is recognisable and understood by the viewer despite this lack of authenticity, and the viewer is thus invited to explore this idealised world that, in truth, never actually existed anywhere other than on this canvas.
