Waterlilies

Oil on canvas, 36″ x 48″

Since I first encountered them, I have always greatly admired Monet’s Les Nympheas waterlily paintings, and have, in the past, tried to emulate Monet’s style using references from a local water garden park which sources it’s waterlilies from the same supplier that Monet himself used all those years ago for his water garden. This painting began life as such an experiment, but has evolved, bit by bit, over several months, moving away from Monet and becoming this interpretation, which concentrates on the peaceful and serene balance of colour and form. No longer an homage to Monet’s painting style perhaps, but still inspired by his search for peace through painting the lilies in his water garden at Giverny.
